Welcome to Pantry ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: Email address, name, and authentication credentials (Sign in with Apple, Google, or email).
- Pantry data: Food items you add, including names, quantities, expiration dates, photos, and barcodes.
- User preferences: Dietary preferences, allergies, notification settings.
- Receipt data: Images of receipts you scan for automatic item entry (processed and deleted within 24 hours).
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Usage analytics: App usage patterns, feature interactions, performance metrics.
- Device information: Device type, OS version, unique device identifiers.
- Log data: Error logs, crash reports, diagnostic information.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Barcode databases: Product information retrieved from third-party barcode databases.
- Authentication providers: Basic profile information from Sign in with Apple or Google.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core services: Track pantry items, send expiration reminders, manage food inventory.
- AI features: Generate recipe suggestions, ingredient substitutions, and grocery lists (Premium).
- Personalization: Customize recommendations based on dietary preferences.
- Analytics: Calculate waste reduction and cost savings statistics.
- Notifications: Send push notifications for expiring items.
- Improvement: Analyze usage patterns to improve app performance.
- Subscriptions: Process Premium subscriptions via RevenueCat.
3. Gmail Integration & Google API Limited Use Disclosure
This section describes how Pantry accesses and uses Google user data in compliance with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3.1 What We Access
When you choose to connect your Gmail account, Pantry requests read-only access
to your Gmail (gmail.readonly).
We use this access exclusively to:
- Search your inbox for emails from supported grocery stores and delivery services (Instacart, Walmart, Kroger, Target, Publix, Amazon, Whole Foods, Costco, Safeway, Albertsons, Trader Joe's, ALDI, DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats).
- Read the subject, sender, date, and body of matching receipt and order confirmation emails.
- Extract product names, quantities, and prices to add items to your pantry.
3.2 What We Do NOT Access
- We do not read emails unrelated to grocery receipts or order confirmations.
- We do not send, modify, or delete any emails.
- We do not access your contacts, calendar, Drive, or any other Google service.
3.3 How Gmail Data Is Stored
- Only the parsed item list (product names, quantities, prices) is saved to your account.
- Raw email content (HTML, body text) is not retained after parsing.
- You can disconnect Gmail at any time from the app settings, which revokes all access.
3.4 Limited Use Compliance
Pantry's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We only use Gmail data to provide and improve the grocery receipt import feature that is visible and apparent to users in the app.
- We do not transfer Gmail data to third parties unless necessary to provide the feature, required by law, or with explicit user consent.
- We do not use Gmail data for serving advertisements.
- Humans do not read user email content unless the user has given affirmative consent, it is necessary for security purposes, or it is required by law.
4. Third-Party Services

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only:
- With service providers listed above to deliver app functionality.
- When required by law, court order, or government request.
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of our users.
- In connection with a merger or acquisition (with notice to you).
6. Data Storage and Security
- All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
- Data at rest is encrypted in Firebase Firestore.
- Access is restricted to authorized systems via Firebase Authentication.
- Receipt images are deleted within 24 hours of processing.
Data location: Your data may be stored and processed in the United States.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access: View and export your pantry data at any time.
- Correction: Edit your account information and pantry items.
- Deletion: Delete your account from Settings.
- Gmail disconnect: Revoke Gmail access at any time from Settings.
- Opt-out: Disable push notifications in device settings.
If you are located in the EEA (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have additional rights including data portability, right to erasure, and right to object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
8. Children's Privacy
Pantry is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Contact us immediately if you believe we have.
9. Data Retention
We retain your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Backup copies are deleted within 90 days.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification and update the date at the top.
